Baby E chose the perfect moment to visit our Toronto newborn studio: the day on which inspiration had struck and I was eager and ready to put a few new photography ideas into practice. Luckily for me, this bundle of adorable was a willing volunteer and seemed to love every moment of her first photo session!

Every so often, I like to make some changes to  my newborn posing repertoire. Sometimes this is because I’ve come up with a whole new idea to show off my cute subjects in their photo albums, other times it’s because I’ve found a new prop that I can’t wait to use.

For Baby E, both of these things were true! The first new addition that this little lady tried out was a wooden bowl prop I happened to come across shortly before her session at our Toronto newborn studio. Combined with a soft and fluffy wool lining, it was the perfect size and shape to curl a little one inside, warm and completely safe.

The second new addition may be my very favourite of all: wrapping a little one up like a potato sack with a teddy bear hat as the cherry on the cake. I think even Baby E herself realised how toe-curlingly adorable she looked in this shot – that’s probably why she flashed us that cute little smirk.

I knew that Baby E would enjoy both of these poses – the first because it placed her in a very natural position, the second because wrapping a newborn up in a bundle never fails to make them fall deeply asleep. A little wrapping and secret posing later, with mom standing just inches away because our newborns’ safety is always the most important thing of all, and we had a heart-melting photograph to add to the album.

I also knew that her mom and dad would love these new poses. Add a tone on tone look and coordinated styling and they both in seamlessly with the rest of the photoshoot.

I had so much fun trying out new things during this photoshoot and combining them with more traditional shots of Baby E curled up on blankets and asleep on her side. I also made sure to include close-ups of her darling new features, such as those perfect rosebud lips.

All in all, I think this came together as an incredibly cute newborn session – something I hope the family will treasure as much as I will in the years to come!
