Newborn Photography Sessions: FAQs

Preparing for a Session

What should I wear?

We recommend that you dress lightly for a Toronto newborn photography session because we keep the studio very warm for your little one’s comfort. If you would like to be featured in some of the images, we suggest you bring several outfits to choose from. Some outfits, though gorgeous in person, will not show up well in a photograph. Our new moms often prefer to wear black because, as well as being a neutral color that keeps the focus on baby, this flattering shade can give you an extra boost of confidence in front of the camera.

What should baby wear?

Absolutely nothing! We photograph baby nude and with wraps and blankets, so clothes are not necessary. If you have an heirloom wrap or outfit you would like to feature in the photographs, however, feel free to bring it with you.

What should I bring with me to a newborn session?

Our studio is equipped to ensure that baby is comfortable and content throughout the session, but we ask that you bring along your diaper bag with all the necessities. If you are bottle feeding or breastfeeding and pumping, we suggest that you bring a few extra bottles of milk. This can help us soothe baby while they are posed.

What happens if my delivery date changes and I miss my booking date?

If your baby is premature, your hospital stay is longer than you expected or you’re having twins and the delivery date doesn’t end up matching your booking, not to worry! We leave time in our schedule in case you need to change the date of your booking. We suggest coming in to the studio as soon as you have left the hospital and have the ok from your doctor. Normally, we photograph newborns before they reach two weeks old but, in the case of premies, we make an exception because there can often be a longer stay at the hospital.

Can I come back when my baby is older?

Absolutely! As well as our Toronto newborn photography package, we offer a first year baby plan that captures the most important milestones of your baby’s first year.

What can I do if my baby is too old for a newborn session?

If you’ve come across our website when baby is older than a few weeks, we can still help you capture these special new memories of your little one. We suggest that you come in when baby is around three months old, or as soon as they are able to hold their head up without assistance.

During Your Session

My baby is sometimes fussy – will my session still work?

Worry not, because we have plenty of tricks up our sleeves to help us calm a fussy baby and lull them into a peaceful sleep! Even if baby is feeling sore, poorly or uncomfortable when they arrive at the studio, we will do everything possible to ensure that you go home with plenty of memories to treasure.

What happens if my baby won’t sleep on the day?

We have yet to meet a baby who wouldn’t sleep eventually! Because we know that getting baby to sleep can take longer with some little ones than others, our newborn sessions last long enough to give us all the time we need.

Can I include other family members in the session?

Of course! We love to include mom and dad in the images and we’re also very happy to involve older siblings, cousins and even grandparents.

How long does a newborn session take?

Plan on being at the studio for between three and four hours. The session can sometimes be shorter, but we allow up to four hours to make sure there is plenty of time available to capture all the images you’re hoping for.

About Your Photographs

What photographs can I expect from my newborn session?

During a Toronto newborn photography session, we capture as many poses as possible and take advantage of every angle. As well as full portraits of your little one and shots including family members, we include close-ups of all those sweet features that make your baby unique.

Can I make requests for my images?

Of course! If you have a colour scheme in mind or you would like to see particular poses and family groupings included, we can work with you to get the exact looks you are hoping for. We can also incorporate heirloom blankets and outfits or toys that are meaningful to your little one and we welcome your input on the props, blankets, hats and headbands we use. For a touch of inspiration from our previous sessions, feel free to browse the blog and galleries to see how the sessions with our other little sweeties turned out!

How can I view my images after the session?

Once your session is complete, you will have access to all the best images within 14 days in a private, password-protected gallery. The proofs will be available for five days to give you plenty of time to make selections for your chosen products.

Products and Collections

What products will I be able to choose from after my session?

We have a wide range of products available from our Toronto newborn photography sessions, from gallery-wrapped art canvases and birth announcements to hand-crafted albums and digital negative collections. We can create a personalized collection for you, or you can choose from our pre-designed collections. For full descriptions and features, visit the products section of our blog.

Can I choose my products ahead of time?

That’s completely up to you! You can either choose your products ahead of time and select the images that best fit after the session, or you can select your products once you have seen the finished photographs.

Pricing, Gifts and Payment Plans

How  can I find out about pricing?

A full list of all our session and product pricing is available through our price menu page.

Do I need to make a deposit ahead of my session?

Though we do not specifically ask for a deposit, we do request that you pay the session fee at time of booking in order to reserve your date.

We’re on a budget during maternity leave and can’t afford all the products we want – can you help?

Definitely! We offer a payment plan that has been specifically designed to help you spread the total cost over up to 12 months, so that you have the freedom to order every product on your wish list without worrying. Alternatively, our collections are a great way to invest in a pre-designed set of products at a special price.

Can our friends and family contribute to the cost of our newborn session?

Yes! We have a complimentary baby gift registry available that all your friends and family can contribute to. When you sign up, we will provide you beautiful cards to include in your baby shower invitation or send out to loved ones. All you need to do is schedule your session and we will take care of the rest!
